Lost Track Atlantic 4 Part Surf Series Film Review

Posted on
lost track atlantic review

Produced by Needessentials Wetsuits, Lost Track Atlantic is a 4 part series of films created by talented free surfer Torren Martyn and filmmaker Ishka Folkwell, which follows their adventure in a roughly converted van from the far north Atlantic in Europe to the tropical, equatorial coast of West Africa.

Originally setting out to create a single feature length film, the duo later decided to spread it out as 4 lengthy episodes due to the amount of great footage they captured of both surf and landscapes which deserved to be seen.

At the time of writing this, only 2 of the 4 episodes have been released and they are pretty special. The filmmaking is superb, the soundtrack fitting and you just can’t help but get excited for the journey along with Torren & Ishka. The contrasting imagery from the first episode across Ireland and Scotland to Morocco in the second is amazing and the waves and superb surfing of Torren Martyn is always wonderful to watch, as is his enthusiasm for finding far flung and remote waves.

Perhaps the most interesting thing about this film is its timing. It was captured in the months leading into Covid 19 between November 2019 to March 2020. Noone could have foreseen what was about to unfold and it will be interesting to watch how the end of the tale plays out in the final episodes as the guys reportedly made their way home just as the final flights were being cancelled in March 2020.

Ironically, as travel and surf trips are now on a long hiatus and as we are yet to see how world travel will even look like once it resumes – the wonder and joy of travel as depicted in these great films are all the more special.

Do yourself a favour and check them out!:
