Isle Surfboards out of San Diego, California are a surfboard and Stand Up Paddle Board company that have grown substantially from humble beginnings in 2004.
In 2019 they have added some soft top surfboards to their range. With two high performance softboards, the Nugget and Thumper – it will be interesting to see if they add to their lineup in 2020.
Below is a breakdown of the two current softboards from Isle Surfboards.
1. 4’11 Nugget
The Isle Surfboards Nugget is a durable high-performance twin-fin soft top that’s built to take a beating in shore breaks or busy summer lineups where you might be afraid of damaging your regular board in all the mayhem.
Ideal for barrels and for speed and loose surfing through sections.
Size: 4’11” x 21″ x 2 1/2″ (34L)
Suited to:
Despite its tiny size the Nugget is wide and packs volume at 34L with a bit of rocker/nose lift so it is still paddle friendly and can easily get into a variety of waves a competent short boarder will have no problem on this, alternatively lighter groms and kids. We wouldn’t suggest this board is suitable for adult learners.

- 2 stringers wrapped in fiberglass to closely match the flex of a traditional high-performance board
- Waterproof IXPE foam deck (wax required)
- HDPE bottom
- FCS compatible twin fin setup (fins included)

2. 5’10” Thumper
The Isle Surfboards Thumper is a speedy fish design that is suited to all surf levels from beginner through to experienced.
With a bit more length and volume than the Nugget, this board is more user-friendly and therefore offers a bit more for most surfers including learners.
Suited to a variety of waves including hollow shore breaks, mushy weak waves all the way through to decent lined up head high + surf.
The swallow tail design effectively extends the length of the board’s rails, offering surfers enhanced drive, superb traction, and a quick release at the end of turns. The FCS-compatible quad-fin setup shines in hollow waves while remaining loose and maneuverable in weaker summer surf.
